Latest News - Youth team lose to champions

Woodcote/Stoke Row were beaten 4-2 by league champions Whitchurch Hill in their final pre season friendly on Sunday. Matty Wise scored both goals in the first half as the teams came into half time level. But two further second half strikes were enough to see Whitchurch run out 4-2 winners.

Latest News - Reserves crash to last minute Woodley winner

Woodcote/Stoke Row reserves were beaten 3-2 by Woodley Town A at Woodford Park on Saturday. James Wheeler and Arron Ploszinski twice put Woodcote in front but Woodley came back strongly and scored their winner in the 89th minute. 

Latest News - Fast paced Woodcote to much for Sandhurst

Woodcote / Stoke Row first made up for Wednesday nights poor defeat to Royal Mail with an excellent 2-0 win over Sandhurst Devels, Woodcote were so dominant in the first half that a score of 5-0 at the interval wouldn't have been an injustice. First half goals from Si Benham and Jim Hancocks won the game and Woodcote will now look forward to entertaining Highmoor / Ibis on Wednesday night. Go to News for a full match report.

Woodcote / Stoke Row first team started the 2008/09 campaign with a poor 2-1 defeat away to Royal Mail, 2-0 down at the interval Marc Edward-Smith pulled one back for Woodcote but dispite sustained pressure we couldn't convert our chances. See News for match report....

Latest News - Match Preview

Woodcote / Stoke Row first team kick off the 2008/09 campaign today with an away visit to Royal Mail's new ground at Mapledurham. Last season saw both sides occupying the bottom two places in the division with just goal difference separating the two clubs. Manager Pete McAlister goes into the game in confident mood although the side he will field will be much changed from last season with six first teamers missing. McAlister will hand debuts to at least five new players and he'll be going all out for a winning start to the season.

Woodcote Stoke Row under 11's will start their season at league new comers Cold Ash on 14th September. The Lions first home game is against Shinfield Rangers on the 5th October. League champions and local rivals Whitchurch Hill come to town on 19th October and Eldon Celtic will visit the community ground on the last day of the season (Full details on fixtures page)

Latest News - Everything But A Win

Woodcote / Stoke Row finished off their preseason campaign with a 0-0 draw against Marlow Utd Reserves Thursday night, manager Pete McAlister played 70% of the squad that will face Royal Mail next week and was very pleased with the result stating 'That was the best football we've played all preseason and with a touch more luck we'd have won, I was especially pleased with the way we played tonight against a very good Marlow side'. Latest News - One Out One In

A couple of changes at the goalkeeping position occurred this week with last seasons keeper Jamie Small moving back to Westwood, manager Pete McAlister said 'Firstly I'd like to thanked Jamie for what he did for us last season, I spoke with him early on in preseason and told him we'd have a bit of a goalkeeper battle this season and the best man would start, Jamie said he simply wanted first team football so he's moved on and I wish him well at Westwood this year'.

 

Replacing the void left by Jamie's departure is 16 year old Nathan Silver who we are delighted to have at the clubs, see Nathan's profile for more details...

Latest News - Woodcote start at Mail

Woodcote Stoke Row will start the season with a trip to Royal Mail on 3rd September before hosting Sandhurst Devels on the 6th and Highmoor Ibis on the 10th. This is followed by a trip to Berkshire County Sports. Paul Meakin takes the reserves to face his old club Woodley Town when they start their season on 6th September. The first home game is a week later against Mortimer Reserves.

Latest News - Youth team re-elected back to SCML

Woodcote Stoke Row under 11's were last night voted back into the South Chiltern Minor league meaning that Woodcote's only junior side will continue to play matches in the village for another season. The Lions had initially switched to the Berkshire development youth league and would have been playing at a centralised venue. The youth team start their season on 14th September.

Latest News - Spencers Wood Coming To Town

Woodcote / Stoke Row entertain Spencers Wood at the Rec on Thursday night in the annual friendly between both sides. Manager's Keith Harris and Pete McAlister have known each other for a number of years with both sides rising from Division 1 together in 2002/03, although the sides have now gone in different directions with Woodcote in the Senior and Spencers in Division 1. McAlister had no doubts about the opposition his side will be facing Thursday stating 'Keith always has his sides well organised and they'll battle for every ball so we are expecting a tough game'.

Woodcote / Stoke Row have had to cancel the friendly they had arranged with Harwell Internation tomorrow after the opposition pulled out Thursday afternoon, management tried to get another game rearranged but the timescales where just too short. Next game is Thursday evening against Spencers Wood.

Latest News - Youth team start with derby match

Woodcote / Stoke Row under 11's will start their Berkshire development league season with a match against local rivals AFC Whitchurch on 13th September. The Lions face further local derbies after being placed in a league containing Caversham Dragons, Purley Jubilee and Theale Tigers. Full fixtures and reaction will appear on news page later.

Latest News - Winning Start

A Woodcote / Stoke Row mixed side got preseason off to a winning start on Thursday night with a 4-2 win over Henley YM, goals from Tom Brownlow, Dan Bissett and Dean Jordan (2) saw Woodcote finally over come a stuborn YM side. Manager Pete McAlister was pleased with the win stating 'We were a little rusty in the first half but picked it up in the second, there were some good performances which was nice seeing as we had 8 players making their debuts tonight. I was especially pleased with the youngsters who played tonight with the highlight being 16 year old Tom Brownlows 25 yard strike to open the scoring'. Latest News - Training

Training has now switched from the Rec to the Oratory School, 7pm on Tuesday night. Directions are straight forward, from the main road A4074 (Reading to Oxford Road) drive into Woodcote down Reading Road, after 800 yards turn left onto Greenmore Road and drive 400 yards, as the road turns right there is a left turn, drive down this road and the pitches are on your left.

Latest News - Oxfordshire Senior and Intermediate Cups Drawn

 VS

The draw for the Oxfordshire Senior and Intermediate Cups was made this week and the first team have been handed a favourable tie in the first round when they entertain Marston Saints who won promotion to the Oxford Premier Division last season. Should we win that game would would again be at home in the Second round with a tie against Hellenic Premier Division new boys Old Woodstock Town. The Reserves got a bye in the first round and will play near neighbours Henley Town Reserves at home on the 8th November 2008, no date has been arranged for the first team game as yet.
